The Wahm Way Newsletter

The Wahm Way Newsletter
Hi there Brain,

Hope you're week's off to a good start. I've had the distinct pleasure to talk with
a couple people through my Momentum Mentoring service who are brand new
to the whole game of internet marketing and blogging.

I just started a new website and while talking to this lovely lady this morning
I could clearly see how different it is when starting your very first site. I wish
I could remember back that far lol...

The biggest question is "what am I going to write about". I'd like to talk about
that for a bit and give you some of my thoughts.

Coming up with your blog topic

In the past I would have started this p art with go to the google keyword tool..
but not anymore. I think numbers have their place, but I am beginning to realize
there is something else that makes a huge difference... you and your level of
enthusiasm for the topic.

While I was talking this client this morning she was talking about 1 topic.
She seemed very knowledgeable in the subject and seemed to enjoy it.

However, a little further into our conversation she started talking about something
else. Her voice lifted. She had this level of excitement in her voice. I could really
tell she was SUPER jazzed about this topic.

That enthusiasm, that feeling of YEAH when you think about your topic is crucial.
For the regular reasons of being able to stay with your site through the hard times
but also because if YOU are that excited and enthusiastic about it, there are
going to be others as well.

Choosing a domain name:

I asked her to think about a domain name during the week. Choosing a name
could of course be started with going right to the google adwords tool... however,
this again has to POP. This is what people will see and make a decision based on.

Here's a quick tip I gave her when she asked how she comes up with a name.

Choose something related to you topic, that lets people know exactly what to
expect when they get there. Think about the kind of writing you're going to
do as well as the type of people you're going to be talking to. Thinking
about these things can really help you create a tone for your domain name.

You want the tone of everything about your site to be the same... so the tone
of a domain name, the title, the tagline, post titles... you want them to all FEEL
the same.

If you're a busy mom talking to other busy moms, that has a tone...

If you're a gourmet chef talking to other gourmet chefs that has another tone..

If you're a gourmet chef talking to students... that has a tone to it.

These are the foundational things that really make one site stand out from
another... the feeling a site gives off from every element really does make
a difference. If it just doesn't "feel right" people will get that and will not
stay.

So when you're choosing a domain name keep working with it until you
find one that literally makes you excited. Choose a domain name, not
necessarily based on keywords, but on the fact that YOU can't wait
to type it into the address bar!

Choosing a Site Title

The same "feeling" thing goes for your site title as well. Just because you've
used one domain name doesn't mean your site title has to be the same.
If things have changed a bit for you, go ahead and change the site title
to reflect what you've become! Internet Marketing for Mommies has had at LEAST
two other titles. :)

The site title goes a long way in determining how a site ranks in the search engines.
This is where it can be a good idea to make sure you have some search terms in your
title, but in the end make sure it makes your heart skip a beat before you go with it.

I've been a bit of a hermit this week... and I've just started a 10 day juice fast so my
head is a bit foggy as well... man caffeine is something!

Here's what I've been up to:

I want to work from home... where do I start?

The one thought rule A little time productivity management tool I've been using lately.

Cook Once Eat Twice and a meal plan... a great little tip to cook less and eat more.
