The Wahm Way Newsletter

The Wahm Way Newsletter
Happy Monday!

It's another week of temps above 100 and frying your feet if you dare walk outside
without shoes. Not only are my feet feeling fried, my brain is feeling fried. I've got a
couple new projects in the works ~ I had 2 brave volunteers step forward to do a
test run of my new coaching program ~ which I'm actively working on a much better
 name for.

I've also started writing a book ~ a real book, that will *fingers crossed* someday be
published and sitting on shelves in a bookstore. That's a big deal for me... when I was
growing up I always knew I'd be a writer.

I've consoled myself for the last 7 or 8 years by telling myself that I AM a writer... I
publish new content at least 5 days out of the week. However, deep in my heart
I knew that's not what my little, younger self meant when she dreamed of being a writer.
So... after a series of "coincidental" happenings, including a random trip to town
which allowed me to hear an interview on NPR with Marion Roach Smith talking about
her new book on writing your memoir, and an earth shattering session with my genius
EFT coach Lynne Morrell... I realized now is the time. No more holding back.
It's time to get down to the business of being a writer.

This could either terrify me and have me laying in the fetal position under the covers,
or I could create a plan and just start.

You know me... I'm a plan kind of girl. :) I pretty much believe with a workable plan
anything and everything can be accomplished. You wanna know my plan to write
this book?

500 words a day. Every day.

That's it, nothing ground breaking. Simply doable, consistent action. It won't be done
in a week, or a month, maybe in a year the first draft will be done. The length of time
it takes to do this dream isn't really important. What's important is that I'm no longer
holding back and denying my younger self this dream. I'm really doing it. 1 little step,
500 little words at a time.

Blogging and creating an online based business is no different.

It starts with a dream. Whether that dream is to work for yourself, and create a business
where you're the boss and you create your own life, or if it's the dream of helping other
people learn and grow through the things you write about on your blog ~ or even both.

The desire, the dream has got to be there, or it just. won't. work.

I know this is an almost cliche topic in internet marketing these days.. you've got to have
passion... but I've proved the truth of this to myself time and time again.

I've started sites, ideas, topics, projects because I did the research, I did the math. I
knew they would be money makers... and some of them were. The ones that I could
maintain past the hard times to get there. Problem is when you don't give a crap about
what you're doing... and you're just doing it for the money factor ~ it's really, really hard
to maintain that focus and drive through the hard times... and the hard times can last a while
and be really hard.

The only things that have sustained me, and my business over the long haul are the things
I really truly cared about, felt deeply about, felt drawn to do, and felt they were so important
I would be doing people a disservice if I didn't do them. That's what I'm talking about when
I say "passion"... you gotta care. You have to know that this thing deserves to have a life, and
live and be part of the world.

At least that's the way I've seen it work in my life... and the lives of other truly successful people online.

What about you? Do you have that kind of feeling about what you're doing? Does this thing you're working
on... does it call to you to breathe life into it, or is it just something else you're doing to try to make money?

Let me ask you one more question... is that thing that begs you to breathe life into the thing you're NOT doing
because it seems far fetched... because you can't see how you'll make money doing it... because you don't
think anyone else will care?

Yeah, that's how my book was for me too.

I'm begging you to let that dream out... give it a chance. Let it live.

We'll figure out something, some way. The time is now... really. :)

Well... that went in a different direction than I had anticipated... So much for answering the question
What's it about before you start writing eh?

This week has been a pretty thoughtful one for me. I read Marion's book The Memoir
Project
~ which is a FANTASTIC book for anyone who writes ~ bloggers/memoir writers etc.
I've been thinking about inspiration, and writing, and business, and generally feeling too damn hot
to do much of anything.

I've really given myself permission to relax, and take it easy. Get the basic work done, and be
open for inspiration.

Here's some of the things that have inspired me recently:

Homemade Ice Cream ~ We got Ryan a new ice cream maker for Father's day and this book is
a STEAL at 5 bucks, and has tons of great ideas for cool summer treats.

My brave little girl facing her fears like a champ

New bloggers brave enough to step up and ask for some input. (oh yeah, I love that one!)

Guest posts coming in just when I'm completely uninspired to write one single word... and it being a great post about making your site mobile ready.

Being featured yet again on Commenthour... if you haven't joined the fun you really should ~ it's a great hour Wed nights.

People getting excited about earning free groceries

Making morning quiet time part of my accountability list... it's amazing what 10 minutes of sitting quietly listening to the birds, and feeling the "cool" morning breeze on your face can do to get the day started off right.

What about you... are you creating free time in your day to allow inspiration to show up? If you're busy busy busy all day long it may show up and you just might miss it. :) Take a few for yourself. It's worth it.

That's about it... Hanna's screaming for another bowl of soup.

Have an awesome week, and I'm here for you... just hit the reply button. ;)
